
OSEPA TAKES STRONG MEASURES AGAINST BREACH OF ENVIRONMENTAL LAWS
..enjoins operators to carry out periodic environmental audit

..to strengthen compliance monitoring to ensure sustainable environment.
Ondo State Environmental Rotection Agency OSEPA has vowed to deal decisively with any facility operators that breach environmental compliance laws.
The Agency’s Administrative Secretary, Mrs Funke Adeoye gave the warning while declaring open A- Day Stakeholders’ Engagement with operators from all sectors of the economy.
And in line with environmental frameworks, Mrs Adeoye, emphasized the importance of periodic environmental audits to ensure sustainability and vowed that the Agency will visit full weight of the law on any operator that violates environmental rules and regulations.
According to the Administrative Secretary, Funke Adeoye the engagement with the theme “Role of Environmental Auditing in Projects Sustainability,” is aimed at encouraging organisations to prioritize environmental audits. Mrs. Adeoye explained that environmental audits are compulsory for all operators and must be conducted every two years.
She said that, the engagement was informed by the Agency’s operations, which revealed that several facility operators were bypassing environmental processes and avoiding statutory fees. These infractions have negative implications for both operators and the environment.
The guest speaker at the event, Prof. Ayo Olajuyigbe from the Federal University of Technology Akure FUTA, a renowned environmental consultant, emphasized the importance of integrating environmental auditing into project planning and execution.
He noted that this engagement will help operators reduce risks, improve resource efficiency, and foster long-term environmental responsibility.
By enforcing environmental laws and promoting sustainable operating environment OSEPA at aims to make Ondo State the most environmental friendly State in Nigeria
The event which attracted over 100 participants from various sectors of the state’s economy was also attended by Director of Pollution Control, Dr. Oluwole Terebo, and other senior officials of the Environmental Rotection rotection Agency, OSEPA.
