
CENSUS: NPC FEDERAL COMMISSIONER KEMI IYANTAN TAKES ADVOCACY VISIT TO DEJI OF AKURE, COUNCIL CHAIRMAN, OTHERS
The Federal Commissioner representing Ondo State in National Population Commission, Mrs Kemi Iyantan has visited stakeholders in Akure South local government area in preparation for the forthcoming census.
It is in continuation of the commission’s engagement of various segments of the society towards ensuring that accurate data are generated during the exercise.
The Federal Commissioner led her team to the Chairman of Akure South local government area, Dr. Gbenga Fasua who also doubles as the Chairman of Association of Local Government Council Chairmen in the state.
Mrs Iyantan sought the support and collaboration of the Chairman in mobilising the people ahead of the forthcoming census, noting that the commission is determined to achieve a hitch-free exercise.
In his response, the council chairman commended the visit and assured the responsibility will be taken up in two capacities as Akure South Local Government Chairman and Chairman of Association of Local Government Council Chairmen in Ondo State.
Fasua pledged to create an avenue for the Federal Commissioner to meet with all the 18 Local Government Chairmen in the state to enable the awareness spread faster and effectively across the State.
The federal commissioner and her team also visited the palace of the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi where she emphasized the place of accurate data in socio-economic and political planning.
She stressed the need for active participation in the forth-coming population census and highlighted the importance of birth and death registration for accuracy.
In his remarks, the Deji of Akure suggested that people should be counted where they live and work, noting that a committee had been formed to work with National Population Commission in the forthcoming exercise.
The traditional authority commended the efforts of the Federal Commissioner in mobilising relevant stakeholders ahead of the exercise and assured that the palace would provide all necessary support to make the exercise successful.
Mrs Iyantan also visited the Palace of Olojoda in Oda town to sensitize the chiefs and the elders on proper documentation of births and deaths records to make enumeration easy.
She urged the Regent of Olojoda, Princess Mopelola Akinleye to educate the people on the superstition belief of not willing to submit their children for counting, stressing that all efforts are geared towards proper planning.
The Federal Commissioner used the opportunity to also meet with members of staff of the commission in the local government area and also inspected facilities on ground.
