The Executive Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has challenged members of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I orientation course, to become active drivers of national renewal and community development through dedicated service, innovation and responsible leadership.
The Governor gave the charge at the swearing in ceremony of the corps members held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare Akoko. He was ably represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Segun Henry Omoyofunmi.
Addressing the newly sworn in corps members, Aiyedatiwa described the NYSC as one of Nigeria’s most enduring platforms for promoting national unity and youth development. He urged them to embrace the service year as an opportunity to build bridges across ethnic and religious divides while contributing meaningfully to the growth of their host communities.
He encouraged the corps members to take advantage of the orientation course and the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme, noting that self reliance, creativity and innovation remain critical to personal success and national progress.
Earlier, the Chairman of the NYSC Ondo State Governing Board, represented by the Director of Youth in the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mrs. Catherine Okukpe, urged the corps members to uphold discipline, integrity and responsibility throughout their service year.
She commended their conduct since arrival at the orientation camp and encouraged them to participate actively in all camp activities, particularly programmes designed to equip them with entrepreneurial and leadership skills.
In her introductory address, the Ondo State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, reminded the corps members that national service is a call to duty that demands commitment, patriotism and respect for constituted authority.
She encouraged them to maximize the opportunities offered by the orientation course and commended the Ondo State Government for its continued support to the scheme, including ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure at the orientation camp.
The highlight of the ceremony was the administration of the Oath of Allegiance, officially ushering the corps members into national service and marking the formal opening of the 2026 Batch B Stream I Orientation Course in Ondo State.
The event attracted government officials, traditional rulers, security agencies and other stakeholders who reaffirmed their commitment to the success of the NYSC scheme in the state.
