COURT REMANDS PROPHET, ASSOCIATE OVER ALLEGED THREAT TO LIFE AND BREACH OF PEACE IN ADO-EKITI
A self-acclaimed prophet, Adedokun Isaac Moses, and his associate, Jide Aje, popularly known as “Baba Ibeji Onigi,” have been remanded at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre following their arraignment before Magistrate Court I in Ado-Ekiti over allegations of threat to life and conduct capable of causing a breach of peace.
The duo were arrested by officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) following complaints and petitions lodged against them by members of the Ijadu community in Ado-Ekiti.
According to sources within the community, residents accused Adedokun of being linked to several alleged atrocities in the area and claimed that repeated efforts to have him appear before community leaders to address the allegations proved unsuccessful, leading to growing concerns among residents.
The community members subsequently petitioned the appropriate authorities, prompting an investigation by the NSCDC, which led to the arrest and prosecution of the two suspects.
At the hearing, Magistrate Adeosun ordered the remand of Adedokun Isaac Moses and Jide Aje pending further proceedings and adjourned the matter until June 15 for continuation.
Meanwhile, it would be recalled that Adedokun Isaac Moses was recently accused by a trader, Adeniyi Adejoke, popularly known as Tangbogbo, of rape, intimidation, extortion and threat to life.
Speaking in an earlier interview with Omo Edema, Adejoke alleged that the prophet lured her by claiming she was at risk of imminent death and required special spiritual prayers to avert the danger.
According to her, on the day of the prayer session, she attended the church with her mother before being informed that another stage of the exercise required a spiritual bath at a different location. She alleged that the prophet subsequently took her to a burial ground near her shop in Ijadu around 1:00 a.m., where the ritual was carried out.
The trader further alleged that after the exercise, the prophet took her to the residence of one of his church members, Ahmed Abiola, where he allegedly raped her.
She also accused him of forcing her to transfer N200,000, the entire balance in her bank account, and ordering her to immediately delete evidence of the transaction.
Adejoke further claimed that the prophet repeatedly threatened that she would die if she disclosed the incident to anyone. Out of fear, she said she remained silent while he allegedly continued to extort money from her through repeated cash payments amounting to over N1 million.
The victim further lamented the impact the incident has had on her family, stating that she has suffered tremendously since the ordeal.
According to her, her business has suffered a significant setback, making it increasingly difficult to provide for her family. She said mounting debts, declining income and the worsening state of her husband’s work have compounded their challenges, leaving the family in severe financial hardship and struggling to make ends meet.
