With what happened in Akure on Sunday, one may conclude that not all mad humans on the streets could be genuinely mentally challenged.
The ‘mad man’ had been staying at the Police Officer’s Mess junction engaging in smoking of what people described as big wrap of Indian hemp popularly known as ‘igbo’ in Yoruba.
He was said to have been pursued from the place by traffic wardens stationed at the junction to ensure free flow of traffic.
On Sunday morning, a Police Inspector whose name could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report reportedly recognised him, having reportedly come from same community.
He reportedly spoke his dialect to him with responses from the suspect.
He then engaged him in a strong accusation with the emphasis that he was not actually a mad man.
There were allegations that the suspect was actually an agent working for suspected kidnappers but pretending to be mad to ensure that he was not suspected.
This took some time and led to a scuffle which left the two of them with various degrees of injury.
The police inspector who identified him was said to be raising alarm that a bag found with him should be properly guided to assist investigations, claiming that the content could be eye openers.
Officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps whose office is a stone-throw to the area eventually arrived the scene and moved the two of them to their headquarters.
On getting to the office, the Nigeria Police was contacted and the suspect had been moved to the Police Headquarters in Akure.
Okada riders who spoke with Naijaparrots at the scene also made reference to another ‘mad man’ who was nabbed and had to loose his I-phone and put the sims in his mouth and chewed them to avoid links to his sponsors.
Efforts to speak with the Police Public Relations Officer on the issue coukd not yield results as at the time of filing this report.
