The sleepy town of Ifira-Akoko in Akoko South East local government area of Ondo state was rocked by a protest on Tuesday over the selection of a new monarch to occupy the stool of Olifira of Ifira.
The stool became vacant about two years ago when the then monarch, Oba Anthony Olugboja who reigned for almost ten years joined his ancestors.
It was gathered that the selection process had been delayed due to litigation but was finally settled at the court of appeal Akure.
Youths in the community however staged a peaceful protest on Tuesday following what they alleged imposition of a candidate on the community.

The youths alleged that an individual whom they claimed hails from Owo and doesn’t understand their dialects, culture and traditions is about being imposed as the monarch by some king makers.
They carried placards with various inscriptions and vowed not to allow the kingmaker to foist any unpopular candidate on them.

They alleged that the people behind the plans are claiming that they have the backing of the governor which they described as untrue and warned that they should not drag the personality of the governor to such plan.
Security sources in Akoko Southeast confirmed that a selection was carried out on Tuesday with all security agents on ground.
Efforts to speak with the head of the ruling house said to have produced the candidate, Mr Amodu Balogun from Iremu quarters or any security agent were unsuccessful as at the time of filing this report.
