
‘THE NIGERIAN PROJECT’ NATIONAL CONVENER REAGAN UFOMBA COMMENDS TURNOUT, CONTRIBUTIONS AT IBB BOOK LAUNCH
The National Convener of The Nigerian Project, Ochiagha Reagan Ufomba has commended the turnout and contributions of prominent Nigerians at the unveiling of Autobiography of former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida(Rtd) held in Abuja.
The event was also a platform for a fundraising for the proposed IBB Presidential Library Complex.
The TNP National Convener who was speaking with newsmen at the well attended programme said the willingness of both the high and low to participate and make meaningful contributions was a testament to General Ibrahim Babangida’s acceptance as a national leader of repute.
Ochiagha Reagan Ufomba stated that reign of the former Military President witnessed numerous infrastructural interventions that facilitated socio-economic and political development of the country and her citizens.
The National Convener also appreciated the high degree of support received from members and leadership of The Nigerian Project from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, expressing the hope of brighter days for the project.
Ochiagha Reagan Ufomba was accompanied by the National Secretary,
Mohammed Sagir Auwal Maidoya, some members of the National Working Committee and some leaders who include Chief Brady Nwosu, Mr. Bature Abubakar, Abiodun Abari and Emeka Offili.
The event had in attendance prominent Nigerian leaders who include President Bola Tinubu, Former Head of State, General Abdulsalam Abubakar, Former President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo and Former Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo who was the book reviewer.
It was a gathering of the super-rich Nigerians, and they gathered to honour Nigeria’s former president.
Babangida is no longer in power and has no favour to dispense to the successful men and women, but the wealthy businessmen and women were all made by him, so they came to say thank you to a destiny helper.
The financial contributions kept rolling as Alhaji Aliko Dangote donated 8 billion naira for the construction of the library, which is 2 billion every year for the next 4 years and an extra 2 billion if the library extends to another year after the expiration of the 4 years.
BUA Cement founder, Samad dropped 5 billion naira while Nigeria’s richest woman, Alakija, dropped her own donation, which was not mentioned.
Ukpo-born billionaire Arthur Eze who also donated 500 million naira told the story of how a man he met in 1979 changed his life from a small trader to who he is today.
TNP National Convener also made a donation of 15million naira on behalf of the project.
Addressing the gathering, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida described the annulment of June 12 election as the most difficult decision of his life.
“There was no doubt in my mind; MKO Abiola won the election. He satisfied all the requirements,” Babangida admitted.
He expressed relief that President Muhammadu Buhari later acknowledged Abiola’s victory by posthumously awarding him the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR), Nigeria’s highest honor reserved for presidents.
