HOW ONDO NAWOJ, OROGUN FOUNDATION BROUGHT RELIEF TO 50 WIDOWS IN ONDO
Some selected widows in Ondo State have received food items, cash support and free health insurance coverage as the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ondo State Chapter, partnered with the Ayodele Orogun Empowerment Project (AOEP) to support 50 vulnerable women in the state.
The intervention, tagged Orange Widows Support Initiative 2026, was held at the Adegbemile Press Centre, Akure.
According to the organisers, the gesture was aimed at easing the economic hardship faced by widows and improving their welfare across the state.
Beneficiaries were presented with food packs and cash assistance to help cushion the effects of the rising cost of living.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ayodele Orogun Foundation, Mrs Ayodele Orogun, described the initiative as part of sustained efforts to restore dignity, provide relief and ensure social protection for widows, particularly those facing economic and social challenges.
In a major boost to the programme, the Ondo State Contributory Health Commission also enrolled the widows free of charge, granting them access to essential healthcare services.
Representing the Commission, Mr Gbenga Olubodun noted that the health insurance coverage would help reduce out-of-pocket medical expenses and improve the overall wellbeing of the beneficiaries.
Earlier, the NAWOJ State Chairperson, Comrade Tola Gbadamosi, commended the partners for their commitment to women-focused interventions, stressing that collaborative efforts remain critical to reaching more vulnerable groups.
She added that the association would continue to advocate policies and programmes that protect women and the less privileged in society, urging the widows to work towards becoming self-reliant.
Also speaking, a representative of the foundation reaffirmed its dedication to grassroots empowerment, noting that the organisation remains committed to initiatives that deliver practical support to those in need.
The organisers called on other stakeholders, corporate organisations and philanthropists to support similar initiatives aimed at improving the lives of widows and other vulnerable citizens across Ondo State.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the organisers and partners, describing the intervention as timely and impactful.
