ONDO HIGHLIGHTS THE IMPORTANCE OF THE MEDIA AS HOS ENGAGES SNB, NUJ
Ondo State Head of Service, Chief Segun Odusanya has described the roles of the media as vital to the success of any government.
Odusanya gave the description at separate engagements with the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters, SNB, and the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ on Tuesday, in Akure, the state capital.
Speaking with a delegation of the SNB at a courtesy visit to his office, the Head of Service noted that people only get to know what the government is doing through the media, saying their roles could not be over emphasized.
He said it would amount to wrinkling in the dark if all what government is doing to advance the development of the state were not brought to the knowledge of the people by the media.
According to him, the government would continue to encourage media practitioners in its employment including promotion to top positions in the service of Ondo State.
Earlier in his address, the Chairman of SNB in the State,Ven. Nelson Fadoju, who congratulated the HOS on his recent appointment and appreciated Governor Aiyedatiwa for his choice, called for more encouragement for media practitioners in the state by appointing members to positions of Permanent Secretaries.
He pledged the continued support of the SNB for the state government’s policies and programmes, using its platforms.
Also at a later engagement with members of the NUJ at the NUJ Press Centre, Alagbaka, Akure, Chief Odusanya appreciated journalists in the state for adequate coverage of government’s activities and called more objective reportage.
He said government would continue to cherish their partnership and would not hesitate to provide necessary support and encourage members in the state’s employment.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the State Council of NUJ, Prince Leke Adegbite, who noted that Chief Odusanya was the first HOS to have paid such visit to the NUJ Press Centre after the Late Alaba Isijola about two decades ago, appreciated him for the visit, pledging sustained working relationship with government.
He however advocated for improved working conditions for journalists in the state, including employment of more staff and elevation of members to Permanent Secretary positions.
