
ONDO TO PARTNER ORANGE PRIVILEGED CARD PROJECT FOR ENHANCEMENT OF TEACHERS’ WELFARE
Ondo State Government is forging ahead with a partnership with the Orange Privileged Card project to to compliment its welfarist programmes for teachers in the state.
The representatives of the project had held a meeting with the authorities of State Universal Basic Education Board(SUBEB), Association of Primary School Heads in Ondo State(AOPSHON) and Nigerian Union of Teachers(NUT) on the modalities for take-off of the project.
The Lead Consultant of the Orange Privileged Card, Mr. Ladipo Oke who said the scheme provides a Card that opens account for privileges and self worth would enable teachers in the state have access to credit facilities, commodities and home appliances at discounted rates while payments can also be spread up to six months.
While explaining that the card is digitised with the ability to carry out transactions, the consultant stated that institutional registration would be carried by the unions and supervising agencies.
He stressed that teachers in Ogun State have benefited commodities, loans and home appliances worth over forty million naira in 2003 alone, assuring that similar feat would be achieved in Ondo State within a short period and made a continuous exercise.
The Chairman of SUBEB in Ondo State, Rt. Hon. Victor Olabintan said information received from other states where the project exists shows that teachers would be relieved from some economic hardships.
Olabintan who was represented by the permanent secretary in the board, Chief Dele Akinnagbe assured that all structures and processes would be put in place for effective and successful take-off of the project in the state.
The Chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers in the state, Mr. Victor Amoko represented by Olusanya Akogun described the project as a welcome development, considering the impact it would have on the economy of their members.
Similarly, the Chairman of Association of Primary School Headteachers of Nigeria in Ondo State, Mr. Frederick Akintoroye said information received from other states are convincing that teachers in Ondo State should also key into the idea.
The Orange Privileged Card project is expected to be flagged off officially at this year’s World Teachers’ Day ceremony slated for next Thursday.
